In the run up to November of 2016, there was a lot of buzz about Donald Trump being an ‘economic populist’. The very nebulous term floated around the media, receiving varying degrees of criticism but apparently resonated with voters. I couldn’t tell you what exactly was being expected by every single voter, but a vague promise to turn away from the Reaganite tradition of Supply Side economics. My sense as a 15 year old was that the a lot of disaffected voters who grew up on that ideology in the 80s thought it was white people’s turn to be Cadillac Queens.
